We look at your firebox, the chimney above it and where gas or power would run.
Request an estimateWhat does putting in a fireplace in San Angelo involve?
Fireplace installation in San Angelo means we build a new brick or stone fireplace on site, set a factory-built unit, or fit an insert into the fireplace you already have so the fire burns closed instead of open.
Most people who call have one of three things in mind: a fireplace where there isn't one, an old open fireplace they'd like to actually warm the room, or gas logs in a firebox they rarely use. The price mostly turns on which of those it is, whether we lay brick or stone or set a factory-built unit, what the face is finished in, and whether gas or power has to be run to it. The schedule turns on the permits and inspections for any gas or electric work and on lining up the trades who run those lines. If your chimney is already letting water in or shedding brick, we'd look at chimney repair before building anything under it. When I come out, I'll give you a figure for your own house.
How we handle fireplace installation
Before we build anything, I ask how you want to use the fireplace, because an open one looks great but sends most of its heat up the chimney, and that answer decides between an open fireplace and a closed insert. Then we measure the firebox and the opening, check what's behind and above it, and pick the unit or lay out the brick or stone. We build the firebox, the surround and the hearth with joints kept straight and full, and we clean the mortar off the face before it sets hard. If gas or power is part of the job, we build the masonry and work with the trades who run those lines, so the openings for them end up where they need to be.
A fireplace usually comes with a wall around it. Plenty of people want the chimney breast faced in stone, and our stone veneer installation gives you that look without the weight of full stone. When a raised hearth or a backing wall needs a solid core, we lay concrete block walls first and face them after.
Fireplace installation permits in San Angelo
The City of San Angelo requires an issued plumbing permit for all gas work and an issued electrical permit for all electric work, so a gas insert, gas logs or an electric unit brings the city into the job. The city also won't give Atmos the release to turn your gas on until that work passes inspection, and that inspection is the step a gas fireplace waits on. The city's rules we have in hand don't settle whether the masonry itself needs a permit, so we ask the Building Permits & Inspections office before we start. When a job needs a city permit, we handle the paperwork with that office and plan our work around the inspections.
Across San Angelo and the cities around it, we see both kinds of fireplace. Older houses tend to have a brick firebox built on site, while many newer ones have a factory-built unit, and that difference changes what can go inside it. Telling them apart is the first thing I check.
Why call us for fireplaces
The owner looks at every job
I come out to look at each fireplace myself and then work on site with our crew. The person who measured your firebox is the one standing at it when we build.
Trained to tear out crooked joints
I learned under an old-school mason who made me lay joints again until they were straight, and I started this business in 2021 to work that way under my own name. A fireplace sits in the middle of your room, so you'll be looking at every one of those joints.
Licensed and fully insured, every job
We're licensed and fully insured on every job we take. Gas lines and wiring go to trades licensed for that work in Texas, and we time our masonry around the city's inspections.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best way to get real heat from a fireplace?
An insert usually gives you far more heat than an open fireplace, because it closes the fire in and works much like a free-standing stove. The EPA, on pages it has since archived, says most traditional open fireplaces lose over 90 percent of the fire's heat up the chimney and take much of the room's warm air with it. If you want the fire mostly to look at, open is fine, but if you want it to warm the room, weigh that loss first.
How do I know if an insert will fit my factory-built fireplace?
A factory-built fireplace, which some call zero-clearance, needs an insert designed and tested for that exact unit, so only shop among inserts made for yours. The maker and model are usually on a plate or label on the unit, and I'll check it when I come out.
How much does fireplace installation cost in San Angelo?
There's no honest number until I've seen the house, because the cost depends on the type of fireplace, the finish and whether gas or power has to be run. A factory-built low mass unit is the lower-cost option and the one widely used in new homes, so it's a sensible place to start on a budget, while brick or stone built on site takes more material and labor. Call (325) 292-0348 and I'll give you a figure for your house.
Who can do propane line work for a fireplace in Texas?
In Texas, propane line work takes a Category D LP-gas license from the Railroad Commission of Texas, though registered licensed plumbers and air conditioning contractors may also do it. Plumbers are licensed by the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners. We build the masonry and leave the gas line to a trade licensed for it.
Can I wire my own electric fireplace in San Angelo?
Only if you live there, because San Angelo's homeowner's electrical permit lets just the homeowner or immediate family living at the single-family home do the work. Anyone else needs an electrician, and either way the wiring goes through the city's permit.
Are gas logs worth putting in an old fireplace in San Angelo?
Gas or electric logs are worth it for the look, but they aren't designed to be a real source of heat. Some gas logs need no outside venting, and the EPA doesn't support those vent-free models because of indoor air quality, which is federal guidance rather than a city rule. If heat is what you're after, an insert is the better thing to ask about.

Stone veneer installation
If you want a stone face on the chimney breast or the wall around the hearth, veneer gives you that look on new or existing walls without full stone.
Concrete block walls
When a fireplace, raised hearth or backing wall needs a solid structural core, block is often what we lay first before any brick or stone goes on the face.
